The Villa de Sepúlveda in Segovia
Sepulveda is just over an hour from Madrid or Valladolid. It is situated on two hills, between the rivers and Caslilla Duratón. Town full of beautiful places, cobbled streets, palaces, Romanesque churches, remains of walls and its seven gates. Of particular interest is the Romanesque heritage, churches such as:
The Church of the Saviour, which crowns the town. The eleventh century, the oldest Roman Segovia, two ships, more tower and portico.
Shrine of Our Lady of the Rock (patron saint of the town), Romanesque of the twelfth century plant similar to that of Salvador and arcades.
Church of Saints Justo and Pastor, Roman, three apses and naves with wooden deck, which houses the Museum of the Jurisdictions.
Romanesque church of San Bartolome, which has a pretty long stairs headed by a Renaissance cruise.
Church of Santiago, Romanesque with Mudejar apse, and a rectangular nave, which today houses the Interpretation Centre of the Gorges of the River Duratón
Besides these examples of Romanesque in the village include:
The Plaza Mayor, partially porticoed, chaired by the Palace of Count de Sepúlveda, and the remains of the castle wall.
Remains of walls and doors. As the Quicksilver or Ecce Homo, the River, or the Gate of the Force, from which you can see the town and access to the Gorges of Duratón through a Roman road.
Since Sepulveda near the Natural Park begins the Duratón River Gorges. This tour continues through canyons Burgomillodo reservoir. Place of great natural scenic beauty and where the large colony of griffon vultures is the main attraction. While addition of plant and animal diversity include: the Romanesque chapel of San Frutos, several cave paintings (Seven Altars, Hermits, the? Eagle lar ,...) and ruins of the Monastery of Our Lady of the? Angeles de la Hoz (only accessible through the bed of the river).
When natural and cultural landscape of the town completes the famed cuisine, regarded as the capital of lamb. Being the main course lamb roasted in the wood oven, traditionally accompanied by salad, Ribera del Duero wine and dessert Segoviano Punch.
No doubt a complete choice for any weekend getaway or that can be completed with the many active tourism activities on offer in the area as canoe routes, hiking, 4x4, ...
El Pajar de Pedraza, rental house for vacations, weekend getaways ... in the nearby town of Pedraza Santiuste can be a cheap and quality for this visit to Sepulveda, the gorges and mountain area of Segovia.
