Basic Chinese Business Etiquette
If you want to establish good business relations with the Chinese, the first thing you need to do is be careful not to offend them. Things that can give offense are: - looking your Chinese colleague in the eye, gesturing with hands while speaking, placing his business card in his pocket without reading it first, referring to "The Republic of China" instead of "Taiwan" be late for the meeting, wearing skirts above the knee, saying "no". You should say instead: "I'll look into this."
Suits should be dark and conservative. The bright colors are totally inappropriate for business. Jewelry can be worn so long as it is of good quality and not ostentatious. A gift is not expected, but if you bring gifts, make sure they are not expensive and that there is one for every member of the meeting. Make sure it is obvious that the gifts are not personal, but by society. Give the most important person in his first gift.
Do not wrap gifts in white or black, as these are the colors of death. Red is considered an appropriate color, but it is better to have them wrapped up by the hotel staff upon arrival, since in the customs may open them.
Always use the polite form of address, for example with the correct title and last name, have your business card bordered in gold and give a brief handshake light. Talk before the meeting is considered good manners, as are pauses in the dialogue .......
